Caitlin is an Associate Attorney at Gaw Van Male, LLP and practices in the Business Transactional Department and Litigation Department, with a focus on Wine Law, Business and Real Estate Transactions, and Litigation.
Caitlin was born and raised in the Napa Valley and is a graduate of Vintage High School, where she participated in four years of soccer and track & field and graduated in the top 1% of her class. After spending her undergraduate years at UCLA, she returned to the Bay Area for her law degree with a goal of ultimately returning to Napa to serve the local community where she has her roots.
Caitlin is an avid long distance runner, and has finished more than a dozen marathons (including four Napa Valley Marathons) and more than 30 half marathons. When she isn’t in the office or fitting in an early morning run, she can be found hiking with her husband in the Bay Area’s beautiful parks, camping, traveling, going to great and embarrassing lengths to entertain her niece and nephews, and deciding which National Park to visit next.
Caitlin rounds out the firm’s Wine Law practice with over five years of experience practicing business and real estate litigation and transactional law. Her familiarity with the issues that result in legal disputes, and her experience resolving those disputes, enables a unique perspective towards protecting and achieving her clients’ business goals.
Caitlin prepares corporate governance documents, and drafts, negotiates and interprets key documents for wineries and other businesses in the Napa Valley community. Caitlin’s experience also includes commercial and residential landlord/tenant transactions and proceedings, real estate transaction and boundary disputes, fraudulent concealment and nondisclosure actions, trespass disputes, and defense and compliance work for mortgage loan brokers and officers. Caitlin also assists businesses in employment and discrimination matters, including disability discrimination claims and employment contract disputes.
Caitlin currently serves as Vice President of the Napa Young Lawyers Division, and Secretary of the Napa County Women Lawyers association. Caitlin previously served on the Executive Committee of the Trial Practice Section of the Alameda County Bar Association, contributing to the Section’s quarterly newsletter and Continuing Legal Education events. Caitlin also participates in the Women’s Section and Barristers Section of the Contra Costa County Bar Association.
During her time as a law student, Caitlin interned at the Napa County Superior Court for the honorable Judge Raymond Guadagni (now retired). Caitlin also worked as a fellow for U.C. Hastings College of the Law, planning a successful symposium that converged issues in women’s health and medical law.Areas of Practice
