Matthew J. Evans received his undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee in 1992 and was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa the same year. He received his law degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1996. Matthew served as a Student Materials Editor for the Tennessee Law Review in 1996. He joined Paine, Tarwater, and Bickers in April 2002 after practicing at another local firm for several years.Matthew is a member of the Knoxville Bar Association and Co-Chair of its Pro Bono Committee. He is a 2005 graduate of the Tennessee Bar Association's Leadership Law Program and a 2007 graduate of the American Bar Association's Leadership Academy. Additionally, he is a past Chair of the Solo and Small Practitioner's Section of the Tennessee Bar Association and an editor of the American Bar Association, Tort and Insurance Practice publication, “TortSource.” Since 2009, he was selected each year as a Knoxville Top Lawyer in Consumer Protection Law and was also selected as a 2010 Mid-South Rising Star in Products Liability Defense by Mid-South Super Lawyers.Matthew and his wife live in Knoxville with their two children, Zeb, an avid guitarist, and Isabel, an accomplished banjo player. He is active in church work, his children’s schools and other community activities.
