About Susan Barbour
Susan Barbour’s broad experience in real estate law includes representation of clients in the purchase and sale of industrial and commercial sites, residential and commercial developments, including single and multi- tenant commercial centers and residential properties. Her expertise covers careful examination of titles, closing of loans, preparation of covenants, conditions and restrictions, review and preparation of rights of ways and easements, preparation of leases, option agreements, purchase contracts and associated development documentation. Susan's larger clients include various regional and national banks, The City of Asheville, Duke Energy Progress, Mountain Retreat Association, the Buncombe County School Board, Givens Estate, Inc. and Carriage Park Associates, LLC.Susan is a Member of the Real Property Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, the Real Estate Lawyers Association of North Carolina and the Real Property and Law Practice Management Sections of the American Bar Association. In the community she is a volunteer with the Asheville Humane Society, at A.C. Reynolds High School, with the Mountain Area Volunteer Lawyers Program through Pisgah Legal Services, and is a Volunteer Instructor with On Track Financial Education and Counseling. Susan serves as a Trustee of the Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont Charitable Trust and is a Member of the Juliette Gordon Low Society of the Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont Girl Scout Council. She is a member and Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the Asheville Humane Society, and a member and board member of the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys. Susan is a member at New Hope Presbyterian Church.Susan is a North Carolina native and received her Juris Doctor degree with Honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1984 and has maintained a practice devoted exclusively to real estate matters in Western North Carolina since relocating to Asheville in the fall of 1984. Susan joined McGuire, Wood & Bissette in 2000 and is presently serving as practice group chair of the Real Estate Development and Construction practice Group.When not in the office, Susan enjoys reading and spending time at Maple Cove Farm in the beautiful Haw Creek Valley of East Asheville. Susan enjoys gardening, hiking, tending the family flock of chickens for egg production and romping with the family dog Bailey.
