Biography

Mr. Jensen co-founded Bowie & Jensen and leads the firm’s transactional department. He has received numerous legal awards and most recently was named to SmartCEO’s legal elite and Super Lawyers, a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas, who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Mr. Jensen is the grandson of Danish immigrant farmers and the son of a small business owner. He grew up in Minnesota, working in his father’s retail store, and made his way through college (Hamline University B.A., Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, 1980) and law school (State University of New York at Buffalo J.D., 1985; visiting student for three semesters at University of Maryland School of Law) supporting himself with a wide variety of service and unskilled labor jobs. His background and experience in small business allows Mr. Jensen to bring a unique perspective to the representation of small businesses, private companies, entrepreneurs and professionals. As chairman of the firm’s transactional department, Mr. Jensen focuses his practice on the representation of small businesses, privately held companies of all sizes, entrepreneurs and professionals, drawing on his personal experience and professional training to identify goals and develop strategies and tactics to achieve them. Most notably, Mr. Jensen represented the buyer in the acquisition of a minor league sports team, the buyer in the acquisition of a manufacturing facility out of state, the surviving entity in a merger of national resellers and the acquirer in one of the ten largest commercial real estate transactions in Baltimore, 2009 to name a few. Mr. Jensen represented several clients in commercial lending transactions, represented funds and companies in various private equity investment transactions, worked with many clients to identify, protect and commercialize intellectual property and helped clients prepare and execute succession plans for private companies, including individual estate plans. He is sought after for his ability to act as general counsel for numerous private companies helping to identify and triage legal and business issues while developing strategy and tactics and addressing them in the context of the entire business. Mr. Jensen is committed to public service and serves on the Board of Directors of the MedStar Health System where he serves on the Audit Committee, the Investment Committee and is Vice-Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee. MedStar Health is a $3.8 billion not-for-profit, regional healthcare system with a network of ten hospitals and 20 other health-related businesses across Maryland and the Washington, D.C. region. As the Mid-Atlantics’ largest health system, it is one of the region's largest employers with more than 26,000 associates and 5,300 affiliated physicians. Prior to his appointment to the MedStar Board, Mr. Jensen served on the Board of MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, part of the MedStar Health System, for nine years, serving a three-year term as the Board’s Chairman. MedStar Union Memorial is one of the nation’s leading heart and orthopedic hospitals and a non-profit institution providing quality care to the surrounding community. In addition to his role as the Chairman of the Board at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, he chaired the MedStar Union Memorial Hospital Strategic Planning Committee, served on the Professional Practice and Quality Oversight Committee (which he also chaired), Risk Management Committee, and Hospital Leadership Committee and was, during his term, an invited guest at the Medical Executive Committee meetings. He also served on the MedStar Union Memorial Foundation Board. Since 1995, through his work with Maryland State Bar Association Lawyer Assistant Program, Mr. Jensen has worked helping alcoholic and drug addicted lawyers. Mr. Jensen currently serves as the Treasurer of the Maryland Hospital Association Executive Committee and sits on the Maryland Hospital Association Operations Committee. He previously served on the Maryland Hospital Association Council on Clinical and Quality Issues Committee. In 1996, Mr. Jensen founded the Phi Beta Kappa Alumni Association of Greater Baltimore, Inc. and over the years has done pro bono work for and served on the boards of the Intrepid Foundation, Inc., the Bates Vincent Foundation, Inc., SONKISSED, Inc., and various other church boards, committees and community service organizations. His past service also includes serving on the board of directors and being President of the Towson Chamber of Commerce, and Chairing the TowsonTowne Spring Festival, one of the largest street festivals on the east coast. Mr. Jensen enjoys martial arts and has earned a first degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do recognized by the Kukkiwon while competing successfully on a national level. An avid motorcyclist since his youth, he continues to pursue many varieties of on and off road riding, in addition to being an accomplished alpine skier, runner, and a graduate of the Penguin School of Motorcycle Racing and the Skip Barber School of High Performance Driving. Mr. Jensen makes his home in Baltimore City with his wife and son.
