Biography

Douglas Conover graduated from Indiana University (Bachelor of Arts, Political Science) in 1978. He attended DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Illinois, where he received his Juris Doctor degree in 1981. After graduation from law school, he was a Trust Officer with American National Bank and Trust Company of Chicago, where he worked in the Trust Special Assets Division and the Corporate Trust Division.

From 1987 to 1991, he practiced law with larger Chicago law firms, then practiced with Rieck and Crotty, P.C. from August 1991 until June 2014. Doug formed his own firm in June 2014. Doug’s practice is a broad-based business practice. Using his 32+ years of experience in the areas of real estate, commercial and corporate law, banking, and estate planning and probate law, Doug can advise and assist business clients and the owners of those businesses in a number of inter-related areas of the law:

Real Estate: Extensive experience in all aspects of real estate, including purchases, sales, tax-deferred exchanges, financing, and leasing of residential, commercial, and industrial properties; condominium conversions; and environmental law as it relates to real estate transactions.

Corporate: Formation of businesses (corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, and joint ventures); purchases and sales of businesses or their assets, whether by asset acquisition, purchase of shares, or merger; corporate finance; buy-sell agreements between shareholders or partners; confidentiality and non-competition agreements; environmental law relating to corporate transactions; and general commercial agreements.

Lender Representation: Extensive experience in the representation of lenders in sophisticated financing arrangements, including real estate and commercial financing and workouts.

Estate and Succession Planning: Extensive experience in the preparation of wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, family limited partnerships, limited liability companies, asset protection planning, powers of attorney for health care and property, and business succession and transition planning.

Probate: Representation of estates and personal representatives in decedent’s estates and representation of bank trust departments in their capacity as guardians in all aspects of estate administration, including annual accounts to the probate court, special petitions to the court, defense of claims against estates, transactions involving estate assets, and preparation of estate tax returns and estate income tax returns.

Doug is a member of the Chicago Bar Association and its committees on Real Property, Business Law, Asset Protection, and Trust and Estates.
Doug is a member of the Board of Directors of LawPact, and has been its President since 2004. Doug is active in various professional and civic organizations and serves as a trustee of the Indiana Society of Chicago and its affiliated scholarship foundation, and was President of the ISOC for two years. He is an active member and officer of Trout Unlimited. Doug served as a member of the Board of Managers of his condominium association and was its president for ten years. 

Doug’s interests include fly fishing, golf, bicycling, skiing, Indiana University basketball, history, music, nature, cooking, and travel. Doug is conversant in French.
