Bowie & Jensen is proud to announce that its managing partner, Matthew Hjortsberg, has been named Chair-Elect of the Construction Law Section of the Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA).
The MSBA Construction Law Section sponsors educational programs, updates members on legal and legislative developments and provides various resources for lawyers who practice construction litigation or construction law related to real estate transactions.
After working for an insurance defense firm in the 1990s, Mr. Hjortsberg joined Bowie & Jensen in 2000 as a litigation associate. One of his first cases at Bowie & Jensen was a case regarding a large mechanics lien that involved the Marriott located in Harbor East, which was one of the first buildings to go up in Baltimore’s premiere neighborhood.
Since then, he has devoted much of his time towards developing Bowie & Jensen’s construction law practice. He represents a wide range of subcontractors, architects, engineers, general contractors and owners involving claims of delay, inefficiencies, defective workmanship and other contract disputes. His projects range from local private developments to major governmental and commercial facilities.
Mr. Hjortsberg has been named one of Maryland’s Top 100 Attorneys by Baltimore Magazine’s Super Lawyers publication, and he has been selected for inclusion in the “Best Lawyers in America” list for construction law. In addition, he recently received his mediation certification and has begun mediating construction and business disputes throughout Maryland.
Mr. Hjortsberg formally took over as Chair-Elect on July 1, 2015, and he will become the Section Chair on July 1, 2016.
